Founded in 2011 by John Hunter and Roger Hallett - both former partners at Browne Smith Baker - BSB Architecture is an award-winning, RIBA Chartered Practice based in Hull. With decades of combined experience, we are dedicated to delivering thoughtful, high-quality architectural solutions that are tailored to the needs of our clients. We bring extensive experience across a wide range of project types, scales and sectors, with a particular focus on the residential sector, where we specialise in delivering affordable homes where they’re most needed. Our clients in this space include Joseph Rowntree Housing Trust, Places for People and Ongo Homes. Director & Chartered Architect
Jon is a Chartered Architect who brings a wealth of knowledge, technical expertise and a comprehensive understanding of the regulatory processes. Throughout his career, Jon has been instrumental in delivering a diverse range of projects, with recent highlights including four schemes recognised as Regional Winners in the LABC Building Excellence Awards for Best Social or Affordable Housing Development - demonstrating his commitment to quality and innovation in the residential sector. Jon is known for his client-focused approach and ability to lead projects from initial concept through to completion. He collaborates effectively with clients, local planning authorities, building control teams, specialist consultants and wider project stakeholders - always promoting a positive, solutions-oriented working environment. As a Director of BSB Architecture, Jon shares responsibility for the strategic management of the practice. He plays a key role in ensuring the practice stays ahead of industry developments and he leads on Continuing Professional Development (CPD) - underlining his dedication to maintaining the highest professional standards across the team.
SHAUN TODD BA(Hons) MArch PGCert ARB RIBA
Chartered Architect, Visualisation & BIM Specialist
Shaun is a forward-thinking architect with specialist expertise in CGI production, BIM management and sustainable design. With a passion for merging compelling visual storytelling with technical accuracy, he transforms concepts into immersive, high-impact architectural visualisations that communicate design intent with clarity and creativity. His advanced skills in Building Information Modelling (BIM) support streamlined, collaborative workflows and ensures coordinated, efficient project delivery across disciplines. Shaun is also a strong advocate for sustainable design, continually seeking innovative solutions that align environmental performance with client aspirations. Shaun’s design ethos is rooted in the balance of form and function - crafting spaces that are not only visually striking and contextually responsive, but also highly practical and future-proof. His approach reflects a deep understanding of both design excellence, the evolving demands of contemporary architecture and technology, alongside site-specific and global climate challenges.
PAUL MUMBY BA(Hons) Architecture
Senior Architectural Technician
Paul is a highly experienced and respected member of the BSB Architecture team, with a specialist focus on technical detailing and the resolution of complex design challenges. His expertise is particularly valuable during RIBA Stage 4, where he plays a pivotal role in developing accurate, buildable solutions that uphold the integrity of the original design. Paul’s collaborative working style promotes seamless coordination with consultants and other disciplines, supporting efficient project delivery while maintaining a strong focus on quality and compliance. As a long-standing member of the team, Paul brings invaluable project memory, technical consistency and a deep understanding of workflow processes - qualities that make him a trusted and integral part of the practice’s continued success.
JOHN HUNTER BA(Hons) Architecture ONC HNC
Managing Director
In 2011, John co-founded BSB Architecture alongside Roger Hallett. Since then, he has focused on cultivating both the growth of the practice and the development of the people within it. Under his leadership, the practice has successfully combined the creativity and responsiveness of a small team with the delivery standards and quality control of a large-scale practice. John has fostered a culture rooted in positivity, ownership and continuous improvement. He champions shared knowledge and professional growth, actively promoting tailored CPD programmes that drive both individual and collective betterment. As a key figure, John oversees workload management, resource planning and performance monitoring. His depth of experience and clear understanding of architectural processes position him as a trusted mentor. He acts as Principal Designer under the CDM Regulations (2015) and the Building Safety Act (2022) - a testament to his comprehensive knowledge of the legislative and regulatory frameworks that govern the built environment.
