MYOS HOUSE

Myos House is a pioneering supported housing scheme in North Lincolnshire, providing 25 purpose-built apartments for individuals living with dementia. Arranged around a central hub, the development is the first of its kind in the region, designed to promote independent living while enhancing the health and well-being of its residents. The accommodation was developed in line with best practice guidance from HAPPI (Housing our Ageing Population Panel for Innovation). Every element of the design was considered to address potential impairments, support intuitive navigation, reinforce a sense of personal identity and create strong visual and physical connections to external green spaces. The project was shaped by comprehensive stakeholder engagement, including collaboration with local dementia support groups, the Designing Out Crime Officer, the Local Planning Authority and a dedicated Project Steering Group comprising local authority specialists and representatives. This inclusive process ensured the scheme responded meaningfully to the needs of future residents and the wider community. A limited Post-Occupancy Evaluation (POE) was undertaken following the RIBA POE Primer framework, examining building use, occupant feedback and energy performance. The findings highlighted that the development fosters a strong sense of home, offering a warm, welcoming environment with positive ratings for acoustic comfort, natural light, temperature regulation and ease of wayfinding.
