STATION ROAD

The redevelopment of the former Highways Depot on Station Road in Scunthorpe offered a significant opportunity to revitalise a challenging site, overcoming various constraints such as the proximity to the railway, existing services, air quality concerns and extensive site remediation. Successfully bringing the scheme to life required close collaboration with a range of industry specialists to address these challenges. The 1-hectare site delivered a highly efficient development, achieving 37 dwellings per hectare and contributing a diverse range of housing types to enhance the local affordable housing stock. A key design objective was to create a cohesive and simple architectural language that facilitated a strong connection with the surrounding environment. The choice of materials was carefully considered for longevity, low maintenance and a strong sense of place. This included a mix of brick types, a touch of render, horizontal cladding and varied interlocking concrete roof tiles, all contributing to a visually dynamic and contextually appropriate development. The proposed homes are predominantly two-storey, semi-detached brick structures with duo-pitched roofs, reflecting traditional architectural forms that enhance the local built environment. The elevation designs incorporate thoughtful articulation, with recessed entrances that break up the façades. This scheme delivers secure, sustainable new homes in a sustainable location, close to existing amenities, making it a valuable addition to the area.
